When a patient is injured overseas and either treatment is unavailable or communication barriers exist, urgent evacuation will be required. The Medcall medical team will first assess the patient and work with the local team to stabilise the patient. Meanwhile, our coordinator will deploy the medical team, book a bed at the receiving facility, and handle immigration clearance.

Does the patient require fit for flight in order to fly?

No. Unlike commercial airlines, Medcall air ambulances and private medical jets function as mobile ICUs, equipped to provide full intensive care support throughout the entire flight. This means the patient does not need to be “fit to fly” in the way commercial airlines require.

Medcall aircraft are fitted with ICU-grade equipment such as ventilators, cardiac monitors, infusion pumps, oxygen supply, emergency medications, and advanced life-support systems. Because of this, patients can continue receiving all necessary treatments during take-off, in flight, and landing.

Our emergency physicians and critical care team will assess and stabilise the patient, then safely transport them back to their home country or preferred hospital for continued treatment. Even patients who are critically ill—including those on ventilators or requiring advanced ICU monitoring—can be evacuated safely without needing commercial “fit-to-fly” approval.
